Cabinet Painted with DIY Chalk Type Paint in Carnival Red

Recently I have noticed that I’m mostly painting furniture for clients in very neutral colors.  So when someone contacted me about purchasing this cabinet and asked me to paint it red I got excited.  I love whites and greys but painting something red always makes a statement!

I picked up this piece while I was on a picking trip with my dad.  It had great bones and character but also had lots of scratches and dings.  I gave it a good cleaning and then I was ready to paint.

Using Debi’s Design Diary DIY Chalk Type Paint makes my job so much easier.  Since it’s a chalk type paint you can apply it to almost anything without priming or sanding and it adheres great!  We decided to go with Carnival Red.  It’s a beautiful red that has just a hint of burgundy to soften it.

I painted the entire piece with two coats of paint and then applied Debi’s Design Diary Liquid Patina in Crystal Clear Chandelier.  Liquid patina is really easy to apply.  I used a foam roller and it went on super smooth and even.

I’ve learned that the trick is to apply two thin coats for the perfect finish.  Would you believe I’ve also used a sock to apply it?  It really is that easy.  I even filmed a video showing you how to apply it that you can see here.

And here she is…..

With just a hint of distressing here and there this cabinet was ready for its new home.
