Chest Painted in Pale Grey

Before and After Country Grey Chest

Hello everyone and happy Friday!  Today I wanna share a chest I painted with you.  I bought it and several other pieces from a friend.  Honestly when I got it I wasn’t sure I could do anything with it.  It was just not my style but I figured I’d give it a whirl and see what I could do with it.

Chest Before

Some of the hardware was missing and all the detail work was a little overwhelming.  It also seemed so dark and dated to me.  I decided I’d paint it a neutral solid color to hopefully brighten it up.

I painted it with two coats of pale grey chalk type paint and then clear waxed and distressed it.

My plan worked and it came out better that I had even imagined it would.  I LURVE it when that happens.  In fact I sold it the same day I finished it with three people on a waiting list if the buyer didn’t come!  I guess sometimes it’s good to be wrong.

  1. Wow! What a transformation! I love it! It really is amazing what a coat of paint can do!

Did great job rejuvenating an old piece, thankfully they hold up pretty well. The white does wonders for it and new hardware you put on it.
Actually your piece is what was an armoire when they were first called that, kind of a cross between a high boy and an armoire. If it was older it would be a chif-a-robe which has drawers like dresser on one side and other side like a closet. Hubs put shelves on other side to better use the space.
I got bit of an education in KY when we moved there hunting for furniture for house we bought. Got some great deals on some pieces. Still have a waterfall chif-a-robe that’s about 5′ 51/2″ tall I bought when we first moved to KY in ’99 at a little town north east of Bowling Green called Smith’s Grove, full of antique stores with such bargains. The town antique stores would have incredible seasonal sales on their lawns. Talk about goodies, pieces I’ve never seen here in western CO and for great affordable prices. Glad to hear you sold it so quickly. Bravo. Happy weekend

    1. Thanks JaneEllen!

      Blessings to you,

      Beth

This looks like my ugly old dresser. Did your dresser have a plastic wood look on the front?

    1. Yep Stephanie that’s it! It looked so much better with paint!
