Distressed White Furniture Makeovers

This weekend was so much fun!

We got to celebrate the graduation of our firstborn and spend lots of time with family and friends.  As some of you may know I have homeschooled our children for the last 11 years so not only was this a giant accomplishment for our son it was a great accomplishment for me as well.  Such a bittersweet time.  I’m excited to see what the future holds for our family and feel grateful for Gods provision and blessings thus far.

Today I decided I’d show you guys some white furniture makeovers.  White is {naturally} one of my best selling furniture paints.  It’s also quite popular for makeovers so I use it frequently.

I’m a GIANT fan of a chippy finish and this desk is no exception.

I can’t find my before photo but you’ve seen this style desk before I’m sure.

It was a very dark wood with a few flaws and needed either refinishing or paint.  I figured it would be beautiful in white.

And I just happened to have some Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Ironstone so I decided to go for it.  Since this piece was pretty shiny from the previous topcoat I added some bonding agent to the milk paint.  I did however want some chipping so I didn’t add a lot of bonding agent.

For the inside I chose a pale gray called Letterpress Gray.

It’s made by DIY and is a chalk based paint.

What does that mean?  Well it simply means it will adhere to just about anything with no sanding or priming.

For the top coat on this piece I decided to use DIY Liquid Patina.  It’s a finish that comes in liquid form and is super easy to apply.

Once dry (about 20-30 minutes) it feels like wax.

For this next piece I used Beadboard DIY Chalk Type Paint.

Ironstone Washstand

I did lots of sanding here and there on it to get the rustic finish I wanted.

After the paint dried I used DIY liquid Patina to seal and protect it.

Is the white iron bed in the picture with the washstand for sale? I have one very similar and am hoping to find a second to go in my nearly 2 year old’s “big girl room”
