Empire Buffet Restoration, a Final Look
You may remember reading about this empire buffet here, here and here. Well it’s all finished. And it’s fabulous if I do say so myself.
So let’s just take a moment to see what I had to work with shall we? This buffet had seen its better days. The parts of the bottom drawer had been removed and the front of it nailed shut.
The paint on-top was peeling and the crackle medium that had been used was a little much.
The side, bottom and back pieces of wood were all damaged and separating so they all got replaced.
Then after everything was stripped and repaired it got a fresh coat of paint and a beautiful stain on top.
I love combining paint and stain on a piece. In my experience stained horizontal surfaces hold up really well and the paint adds softness and character.
I’m not going to lie. This one was a doozie! I COULD NOT have done it without the help of my dad. I’ve said it before and I can’t say it enough…he taught me everything I know about building, refinishing and repairing furniture. He’s a perfectionist and at times it makes me nuts but without a little perfectionism things really wouldn’t turn out as well as they have.
This piece is painted with Annie Sloan Old White. Sealed with Minwax Paste Wax and stained with Minwax Jacobean.
Please feel free to leave me a comment with your questions or thoughts. Thanks so much for stopping by.
AMAZING, beautiful combo!! 🙂
Amazing! I really love the mixture of the dark wood and the light color. I’m in the process of redoing a similar looking dresser and pinned your buffet as color inspiration for my piece!
Thanks Meagan!

Great job Beth! A beautiful piece.
Thanks Painted Dragonfly!
Did you wax or poly coat the top?
The top has a poly coat and the painted parts were waxed. Thanks!

Beth
