Painted Adirondack Chairs-19

Adirondack chairs

I laugh to myself when people bring me furniture and say “do you think these are even worth saving?”

These adirondack chairs were in rough shape when a client brought them over to me.  But I was excited to work on them because I’d been wanting to use a bright color and they were the perfect guinea pigs.

Painting furniture with lots of little details is often tedious but I have a secret weapon….my HomeRight Finish Max!  You’ve seen me use it for lots of projects.  From patio furniture, to cabinets to bookshelves to walls the Finish Max is my quick and easy solution for tough jobs.

And when you combine it with DIY Chalk and Clay paint it’s a match made in heaven!

For these chairs I decided to use the color Old ’57.

It’s so bright and cheery!

I started by cleaning the chairs with a coarse bristle brush and soap and water.

Once they were dry I turned them upside down, thinned my paint by a 1:1 ratio and started painting.

Everything got 3 solid coats of paint.

And then sat them sun for several hours to dry.  I sealed everything with DIY Liquid Patina.  I applied it with a brush because I wanted a thick coat.

And here they are!  Bright and beautiful painted Adirondack chairs, looking like new!

    1. Thanks Lina-the crackling is due to the condition of the weathered wood.

  9. Beautiful result! Do you always water down chalk type paint 1:1 to put through the Homeright Sprayer? Thanks for sharing!!

    1. Thanks Barb-yes, always water down the paint as it is too thick to go through the sprayer otherwise.

I actually just found 4 old church pews that I want to restore. They were previously left outside and so the wood is in bad shape but I can’t wait to do what you did here and just bring them back to life a bit 🙂

My husband is going to make some Adirondacks this winter for our patio space. (I doubt he’d let me paint them, though, since he wants to use cedar…and I wouldn’t want to paint that beautiful stuff!)

I sure could use one of those sprayers, what with all the painting projects I have. A girl can dream!

    1. Rebecca-cedar will be so pretty. You could always use the Finish Max to put a clear topcoat on them. 😉
