Painted Driftwood Dresser
It might be more appropriate for me to have named this project the wild hair dresser. When I bought it I literally (with the help of my fantastic strong son) pulled it and several other things out of a room without really even looking at them. I knew they were solid wood and sturdy and that was all that mattered to me.
However when I was able to get it out into the light I realized that it needed a complete overhaul.
The top was covered in fingernail polish and most of the hardware was broken. Nothing a little elbow grease, paint and new hardware can’t fix though!
I had been meaning to try this driftwood technique that I learned from Marian of Miss Mustard Seed when I was at Haven in 2013. Better late than never, right? I painted the entire piece in water diluted Annie Sloan Graphite and then alternated Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Trophy and Linen over that.
There really was no rhyme or reason to it. Just step back every few minutes or so and see where you need more paint to get the most cohesive look possible.
I then did a light amount of distressing to the entire piece to bring out the wood tone and clear waxed everything to seal and protect it.
This was a fun technique that I plan to use again in the near future. It sold pretty quickly to a super sweet couple with two of the cutest kiddos you’ve ever seen.
