How to Update Your Home Accessories

Lamp 1

Painting your home accessories is a great way to give your room a new look without having to replace everything or spend lots of money.  I’ve painted everything from brass chandeliers to outdoor patio cushions to furniture and I’ll be the first to tell you that there is no better way to re-create your space than with a can of paint and a little imagination.

These lamps have great “bones”.  They have character and details all over.  BUT the finish was no longer what my client wanted.  She needed them to match the buffet I recently painted for her.

I used Annie Sloan Country Grey to transform these.  Country Grey is a very pale creamy grayish brown.  And as you can see it really toned them down.  Just a bit of distressing and some clear soft wax and they were ready to go back home.

  1. What an awesome makeover! I’d never think to make over a lamp with chalk paint but that is perfect! Thanks for the idea!

  2. I’ve painted tons of accessories too 🙂 It’s fun, it’s thrifty and it’s like getting all new things for a song 🙂 Spray paint is sort of my go-to for small items however I used DIY chalk paint on a shiny silver bird figurine to make it look like it was made of concrete. It’s so cute 🙂 LOVE your makeover of this lamp. BTW saw this lamp on Hometalk.
