Rock your knock off

Sometimes I’ll post a photo of a piece of furniture I’m painting and it sells before I’m finished with it.

Other times however I will paint a piece and it sits and sits and sits.  So was the case with this cute little guy.

I was seriously pumped when I was painting it.  In fact I did a whole tutorial all about it here.

Dried Lavender Chest 20

But you know what?  I still have it!  I was certain that people loved purple as much as me and

that someone would buy this little chest for their child’s nursery but not so.

So a couple weeks ago during my barn sale prep, I was spending some much needed time relaxing on Pinterest and came across this photo from “Howdy-Honey”….

Hello!  Too cute….so instantly the wheels started to turn and I was off and running!

I decided my first step would be to remove the veneer off the chest.  It had already seen its better days and was by now remember, covered in beautiful lavender paint.

And do you know that under that beautiful lavender paint was this breathtaking worm wood!?!?!?!

LURVE!

I decided I’d leave as much of it as possible wood with a little stain and then paint the rest.

Chevron ChestThen came the herringbone stripes.  I used painters tape and a yard stick measuring about every inch and making a mark.

I then added the tape and painted the stripes with my favorite DIY Chalk Type Paint in Letterpress Grey.

And voila!  A Pinterest inspired herringbone striped chest.

I love the mix of the wood and paint and even though I love lavender I think this suits this piece much better!
