Buffet Makeover in DIY Vintage Linen
A few months ago I went on a pickin trip with my dad and daughter and picked up this fantastic buffet. My daughter actually saw it first and I’m so glad she did because this particular store was hopping and there were people snatching up things left and right. It’s one of those pieces I see all the time and I have always hoped to run across one and have the opportunity to transform it.
It actually was in pretty decent shape with only a few scratches here and there on the body but had lots of flaking and scratching on the top.
I sanded the top down first so I could refinish it. For the finish I decided to use Debi’s Design Diary Dark Wax. It so easy to use and doesn’t have all the harsh chemicals and smells of some of the other waxes I’ve used.
It provided an absolutely incredible finish and the color is gorgeous!
Then I tried a few different colors to see which one I wanted to use. I tried Vintage Linen, Gravel Road and Letterpress Grey. I finally decided on Vintage Linen. It’s just such a versatile option and I felt like it would go with any decor. And since this piece will be for sale in my new shop (more on that coming soon) versatility is important.
I painted the body with two coats of paint.
Then I went over it randomly with some dark and decrepit liquid patina. I like using dark patina because I can dry brush it on quickly and I feel it creates a more natural worn look.
Next it was time to add some clear wax. I could’ve used clear patina but every now and then I like to break out the wax. It provides such a great finish and just makes me happy.
I’m completely thrilled with the outcome of this piece. It turned out exactly how I envisioned.

That piece is absolutely beautiful!! Did you just use the dark wax to stain the top?? That’s amazing, did you just wipe it on and polish? I need this, if that’s all you did, because that piece is so stunning!
Yes, Sally it is. Wax is very similar to a thick form of stain. I may seal the top with an additional clear coat to make it extra waterproof but that’s all.

They sideboard is beautiful, such a professional finish. And both those dark waxes are lucious. Thanks for sharing.
It turned out beautifully. Love it!
Beth, I would like to order the dark wax and linen like you used above. I see the linen paint, but I can’t find or can’t see the dark wax. Can you help me? I figure if I can’t come to TN at the moment, I’ll do something here!
Thanks
Sally
Sally-it should be on there now. Sorry about that. I’m in the process of switching over my online store to coordinate with my brick and mortar shop and it is and overwhelming task. :-/ Thanks for letting me know it wasn’t there.
Beth
Love this!
When will it be for sale? How much?
Hi Rita,
This piece has already sold. So sorry. Thanks for asking.
