Cream Table Goes Black
I’ve had lots of client project since the barn sale. This is just one of many I’m working on this week. As everyone knows I LURVE taking something old and ugly well love and making it new and beautiful.
Enter this little jewel. I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this one.
With its ugly yellow cracked and peeling crud aged polyurethane it needed an update to say the least.
It did have good legs though, don’t you think? Sorry back to the ranch.
I broke out my best buddy Decker and we went to town. Now just for the record I do own several larger sanders but Decker is my first love and somehow even when things look tough we just end up together.
After all that sanding it was time to try some new chalk paint. I read about American Paint Company here. It’s not sold near me so I had a friend pick some up for me on his way home from work. Good friends come in handy.
You can’t really tell from this picture but “Lincoln’s Hat” well apparently it was more charcoal than black cause much to my disappointment this dried dark gray and not black. Back to the drawing board. Enter side note…Americas Paint Company has not see the last of me. They have lots of colors I’m going to try and the price is pretty affordable so I’ll definitely be trying it again. And “Lincoln’s Hat” ended up being a great primer for my homemade black paint.
But wait! Don’t I have some black paint around here from the time I painted my kitchen table, island and hutch? Yes!! Found it. Yippee, disaster avoided. All it needed was a little mixing in this handy dandy blender that another friend found for me.
Four, yes you read that right, FOUR coats later and here you have it. Sleek black beautifulness. Just a little distressing, several coats of good ole Minwax a little buffing and….
It’s. Ready. To. Go. Home.
This piece is a client project and not for sale but I have many more great items. Click here to shop.
I love chalk paint, and have painted quite a few lovely pieces black. When I have the paint tinted, I ask them to double the pigment. They may need to pour out a bit to make room, but it makes for a nice pure black finish. Hope this helps!
