A Dresser Makeover with Annie Sloan Arles Chalk Paint
Spring is here!!!!
Thank The Lord!
It was a long winter, wasn’t it my friends? Spring makes me think of color so today in honor of Spring,
I’m sharing one of my first pieces painted with Annie Sloan Arles Chalk Paint.
I love yellow. I’ve used Miss Mustard Seed’s Mustard Seed Yellow many times. You can see a washstand I painted with it here. So I was really excited to have a client contact me wanting me to paint her dresser with Arles.
My client is redecorating her home and decided to add some color to her furniture instead of replacing it. She has fantastic taste and I’ve painted A LOT of furniture for her. In fact one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever painted was for her. She always challenges me to step outside of the box and be creative.
Believe it or not Arles is a color I hadn’t tried until now. I know crazy right? It’s so bright and beautiful.
I decided to do a layered paint look on this dresser because it was so unique. I painted my brushstrokes in a random pattern and didn’t smooth them out.
I also put more paint in some areas than others….
and crackled some of the paint in others.
I then added dark wax to the piece to give it a rustic tone.
I LURVE how the paint brought out all the details of the piece and how the hardware really stands out now.
I also painted the mirror. She isn’t going to use it right now but if she decides to one day I wanted it to be ready for her.
And here it is all put back together decorated and fabulous!!!

Very nice!! Love the look.
Look beautiful Beth! Arles is one of those colors the looks great with dark wax on it. Great transformation.
Thanks Sonya!!! I agree. 🙂
I’ve not seen any furniture painted with Arles. Love the look of it with the dark wax over it. Great job!
Thanks Paula. I agree, I can’t wait to use it again!
That was a 1930’s waterfall style piece with beautiful marketry inlays. While I love that color Arles and admire your technique, your client was very foolish to choose to have that particular piece painted. It hurts me for some reason when the wrong piece is painted.
Hi Heather,
She absolutely loves it and that’s all that matters to me.
Thanks for reading,
Beth
