Desk Remodel using General Finishes Persimmon

Today I’m going to show you a transformation I did recently on this desk with General Finishes Persimmon.  I typically don’t like orange or coral or anything resembling either one of those colors. At least, that’s what I was thinking when my friend asked me to paint this desk for her in General Finishes Persimmon Milk Paint Is she crazy?  But I have learned over the years that I’m not always right (as once believed) so I said “let’s do it”.   You know what they say… “The customer is always right.”

Now I’m not going to lie, this desk had no where to go but up.  It was missing several knobs and the ones it had were mismatched. But it has good bones and I knew painting it would bring it back to life.

I started out by cleaning it really well with Krud Kutter.  If you read any of my blog, you know that’s my favorite cleaner.  It works great for getting grease and grime left over from use and furniture polish off of your furniture.

You can buy it on amazon by clicking on the photo below.

After I thoroughly cleaned the desk, I lightly sanded a few rough areas and then cleaned them. Then I got started painting. General Finishes Milk Paint is self priming so sanding isn’t necessary but I always like to smooth out any rough places.

As I started applying the first I was still really skeptical but …..

once it was fully covered I started thinking I may have been a little hasty in my judgement of “orange”.  And once I started adding the dark wax to all the lovely detail I knew I had been wrong.

Some cute knobs from Hobby Lobby and it was ready to go!

Ahhhhh maybe orange isn’t all that bad.

Am not usually an orange lover myself but what you did with color and wax is incredible. Really gorgeous desk, love how details were brought forward. It looks more like muted terra cotta now, at least on my screen. And the knobs you used are excellent, perfect for the desk. Will need to see if our HL has those knobs.
If I could afford General Finishes would try it. Being on SS with medical bills leaves me pretty short of spending cash. Hope to get to try GF some day.

    Happy Sunday

    1. Thank you for your kind word JaneEllen!

      🙂 Beth

  2. Love the color and the knobs really put it all together!

  3. What color ofo DIY paint did you use on the large white frame behind the persimmon desk?

Also, if I should get off the I-40 exit toward Fairview–about 182 or so, how far towards Franklin is your store located. I travel that way from jackson, tn.

    1. Hi Suzanne,

The door behind the desk was old from Delaware with authentic chippy paint, I didn’t paint it. So sorry. But I would say it was most like the color of DIY Bead Board.

As far as the store our Fairview location is at 1861 Fairview Blvd 5 miles from I-40 and our Franklin store is at 1911 Columbia Ave in Franklin. I hope you can come visit soon!

      Thank you,
      Beth

  4. This desk is gorgeous! I have been looking for an interesting color to spruce up a desk I picked up and I am in love this combination. What is this dark wax you speak of? I definitely love the feeling it gives the desk with the wax and would love to know more about what it is and how to use it. Please and thank you 🙂
Can’t wait to see your next piece!
