Mustard Seed Yellow Milk Paint
After meeting Miss Mustard Seed at Haven I was super stoked to come home and work on this little guy.
I bought this piece at a local consignment store. As soon as I saw its dovetail drawers and vintage hardware I knew it was coming home with me. It didn’t take long for someone to snatch it up after I posted it on my Facebook Page.
My client wanted a distressed look so we went with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Mustard Seed Yellow. I LURVE milk paint!!! I’ve done several projects with milk paint and I felt like this piece would be a perfect candidate. It creates a look of age that I haven’t been able to achieve with any other paint. It is a much different paint and takes a bit of time to get used to but once you try it you will fall in love. It comes in powder form and is mixed with water. You need to shake it really well in order for the powder to mix properly. I did a post about mixing it here.
Milk paint is very easy to apply because it is thin and forgiving. I usually try to go back over an area several times to make sure the paint has adhered and to prevent runs. For this piece I used the bonding agent on the top, to make sure there wouldn’t be too much chipping there. (I didn’t use it on the sides and drawers, just the top.)
As you can see the paint is smooth when it is applied. Sometimes you might have clumps of powder that didn’t get completely mixed with the water but not to worry they aren’t a problem and just need to be wiped off.
This piece had lots of drawers so I was excited to watch them dry and see all the crackly goodness happen. Yes I said watch them dry. I have issues. I’m ok with that.
As you can see above the crackle on this piece is sheer perfection. I did a little distressing on the edges and then sealed with clear wax. I’m so pleased with how it turned out.
This piece is sold but if you are interested in seeing my other items for sale hop over to my Facebook page and take a look here.
