Empire Dresser in Miss Mustard Seed’s Eulalies Sky Milk Paint
Oh how I love Empire style furniture. It’s simple yet still has beautiful lines and details. This piece was a Craigslist splurge. I was just browsing around not looking for anything in particular and then BAM this popped up and next thing I know I’m hopping in the truck with my son and off we go.
I don’t know if you can tell from the photos but this piece had been well loved. Just the way I like. It was solid but the finish was really worn in some areas and there were a few spots that needed repair.
First I removed all the hardware and repaired the drawers, two of them needed new bottoms so rebuilding them was a must.
After that I did a really good sanding all over because I knew that I wanted to paint it with Eulalies Sky Milk Paint from Miss Mustard Seed. In my experience milk paint always adheres better with a light sanding ahead of time.
Next I made the magic happen…..mixing milk paint is my favorite part of the process. Watching the color come alive is super exciting to me. If you haven’t tried milk paint and you want to know more about mixing and using it you can read about it here or here.
I painted one coat of milk paint on the dresser and then did a very light sanding and painted another coat.
Then it was time for waxing. Miss Mustard Seed’s Furniture Wax leaves a nice smooth finish and seals the paint beautifully.
