New Home Kitchen Design Update

Hi friends!  How was your weekend?  Mine was super productive.  I hope you were able to rest up and that you’re ready to make your week wonderful!

Remember a few weeks ago when I told you about the home I’m helping design?  This weekend I was able to tackle the kitchen design and even do a little shopping!

I started out by going to my local big box store and working with an employee there on the kitchen layout.  I had already done a layout myself on some software that I have at home but I wanted to have another set of eyes on what I had come up with.

We agreed on a plan and I was pretty encouraged about the whole thing.  That is until I saw the price of the cabinets.  It came to the tune of $14,000!  Yes you read that right my friends $14,000 and guess what…that doesn’t include countertops or appliances and this isn’t a giant kitchen!  Ummm yeah…that’s not in the budget that the contractor gave me!#?#!?!  And while I know his budget is bare bones, no frills I don’t want this kitchen to resemble that.

I am a firm believer in being a good steward of what you are given.  It is very easy to go way over budget and “treat” yourself to all the bells and whistles available and then regret it payment after payment after payment.  But that’s not what my clients want nor is it what I want for them.  They want a beautiful kitchen on a reasonable budget. So this weekend my mission became…..give my clients the very best kitchen for the very best price.

Enter the Habitat store.  Prince Charming and I live in a farmhouse filled with treasures that we’ve gathered from yard sales, craigslist finds, flea markets and junk stores.  So we are well versed in the challenge of finding deals.  We were young when we married and we learned quickly if we wanted to have nice things we better learn to like shopping second hand stores.  So this mindset really comes in handy when I’m faced with obstacles like this.  We purchased this oven for half the retail price!  And it’s BRAND NEW!!!!  Wanna know why they had it at the Habitat store…..BECAUSE THE BOX GOT DAMAGED!!!!  HELLO!!!! SCORE!!!!!

We even got the matching microwave, which is also NEW and also for HALF the retail price!!!!

So here’s where we are with appliances.  (They already had the built-in fridge.)  One thing that isn’t pictured is the brand new cooktop Prince Charming was able to find on Craigslist yesterday!!!!  It’s also new.  Long story as to why the owners decided to sell it so I won’t bore you with that but needless to say I’m one happy girl with two happy clients!!!!!  But friends the icing on the cake……

came when we discovered Big Box Liquidation LLC in Columbia TN.  Prince Charming and I had never been there but I kept seeing their adds on Facebook and decided it might be worth checking out.  It’s giant warehouse filled with all kinds of stuff.  Now keep in mind you have to dig through lots of stuff you may not want and you really have to be a picker at heart to want to do it but here…here is what we found….

BRAND SPANKIN NEW CABINETS!!!!!!  BRAND NEW!!!!  Kraftmaid kitchen cabinets that came from a big box store, where they were formerly used as displays!  A set of cabinets that with a little tweaking will become my clients DREAM KITCHEN!!!!!  Cabinets that I was able to purchase for thousands of dollars less than what I had anticipated!!!!!

Prince Charming is going to have to build a few things here and there to make it all come together and I’m going to have to paint them also.  (Yes I know they are beautiful but there’s a plan and a look we’re going for so just stay with me on this one.)

I’m still kinda in awe of how God just happened to have 3 pallets full of the perfect cabinets in a store I’d never been in waiting for me to come and buy them.  SO COOL!  So needless to say I had a GREAT weekend which is just what I needed!  I can’t wait for you guys to see how this all comes together.  Heck I can’t wait to see how this all comes together myself.
