Painted Secretary

When I got a call from friend Sonya that she was bringing me a “desk” I was totally stoked.

But when she pulled up and we unloaded this I realized I had underestimated what a GREAT eye she has!  I have to admit this is one of those pieces that looks great in it’s original condition or painted.

The client that bought it requested a special color to match some existing pieces she already had so I did a little mixing of my favorite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint colors and then I was off and running.

I had to take the doors apart completely so that I could paint the scroll work inside.  It always makes me nervous to take things apart when there is glass involved but sometimes there’s no way around it.

And here she is, finished with clear wax for durability.

Just beautiful if I do say so myself.  My client drove several hours to pick her up and she was equally thrilled with the final outcome.  Happy clients always make me feel like I’m doing what God created me to do.

I would never paint a beautiful wood piece like this. It’s awful!

  3. Hi,
I love the painted secretary. I have a similar one but with a mirror instead of glass and would love to paint it. Can you tell me what kind of paint you used? Thank you….

    1. Hi Susan,

I use Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint. It’s a chalk and clay paint that is very easy to use. You can purchase it on my site here-https://farmfreshvintagefinds.myshopify.com/collections/diy-paint

      Thank you!
      Beth
